Cheviot Elementary School Reviews

If I could give this school less than a star I would. The standards are beyond poor and just because the building is relatively new doesn't mean it's a quality school. And as a parent I do not feel welcome nor have I been treated with respect nor kindness. Message to Cheviot: next time you want to spend money on 'improving' the school, improve the quality of the education and the environment first.

Cheviot School is off to a great start this year. We have a wonderful staff who has been working hard to make a positive change for the students and community. I personally know that the staff spends a good deal of time and energy to make the school a success. Even though Cheviot did fall a category with the mandates of NCLB, they have made growth with students for the past two years according to the Ohio State Report Card. There are not many schools within Cincinnati Public that have done that. I congratulate the staff and adminstration for contiuing to have one of the best schools in Cincinnati Public. Your job is not easy.

The new school is great as is the music teacher some teachers do try hard and work well with students but some are lost when it comes to teaching , school lacks discipline and standers,Lunch room workers can be rude and school princable seems lost at most times

Great new building!! Ms. Delaine(kindergarten)is top notch!! i just wish the district had more money to offer all of the kids from kindergarten to 12th grade extracurricular activies. The sports opportunities are limited. Hopefully that will change this year.

There are a few issues but the level that my son has achieved is rewarding but due to bus transpo my son is switching schools. Focus on discipline and make sure the teachers are EXPERIENCED enough to handle the task at hand.

I have watched this school change in many ways over the 6 years my children have been there. One thing I can say has not changed is how wonderful the teachers are now and have been in the past. Now this year they have some new clubs for the kids and a great PTO that is trying to make the school more enjoyable and family friendly. There is of course nothing we can do about the principal, she is what she is. The one thing that really stinks though is that we are losing many wonderful teachers do to CPS budget cuts.

This school is ridiculous! It seems that they should be more focused on improving the education instead of making sure everyone uses just 1 of the many doors the new 'improved' school building has. The drop off/ pick up procedure is horrible! It's a madhouse! And parent involvement! Well, maybe if they made the parents feel wanted/welcomed, more would be involved. And even worse- the teachers ignore the discipline problems, instead of addressing them- don't ask me what the principals do! Needless to say, I'm looking to move!

I have two kids at Cheviot and unless there are some changes this may be our last year. The teachers that my kids have had are wonderful and are very caring. Unfortunatly, as my kids get older I see that there is very little discipline at this school. Anything goes. The principal is very hard to reach and unfriendly when you can reach her. This does not seem to be just my experience

I don't much care for this School. As an Involved parent, You never feel welcome there. Behavior in this school is out of control.

The loading and unloading of students is a nightmare and I'm afraid it won't improve much after the construction is finally 'done'. My daughter attends kindergarten and has done very well so far. She enjoys all of her teachers and is very enthusiastic about school. I hope this continues on throughtout the upper grades as well. I do wish there was some sort of before/after school care available for working parents!

the school for the most part is ok, the teachers seem to be dedicated and my childern enjoy going there but the unload and load of the childern is the worst i have ever seen. something really needs to be done with that.

Cheviot has a wonderful staff of dedicated teachers. Music is a strong point, as well as art.

I have two kids, in the 1st and 3rd grade. They both are doing wonderful this year and did last. I'm happy with the school the teachers have always kept in contact with me and have been really involved, so I know whats going on with them. They bring home books all the time to do homework. I love the Rosey Reader program my son has been in, which has encouraged him to read.

This school needs some serious help. It is way too small for the student ratio, and now that they are doing some expansion we find out it's not nearly enough. We're new to the school and not impressed at all. Two of my three kids are working in 'mobile' units and have no desks, no lockers and are not allowed to bring books home to do their work - which by the way is 2-2.5 hrs a weeknight. And, by the way, what's up with the teacher retention? Two of my kids teachers quit within two weeks of school starting. The entire school is just way too out of control administratively. It took over 5 weeks to get my sons IEP for special education and it took 4 weeks to get bussing set up when other kids were being picked up less than 100 feet from our house. We're moving!

150 words is not enough to tell of all the injustices going on at this school. A principal who gets paid but doesn't have to show up at school. Students in grades 7th and 8th who have no books to use or desks or lockers. We have way to many students in a building built for far less. A new building beginning to be built that will not have enough room for the students we have and yet we must also include preschool. The one bright spot at this school are it's teachers and they leave after a year or two under these conditions. The principal says 'no' or 'I don't know the answer to that' more than this parent can stand! This school needs a principal who will work with the teachers and parents to make this school what it should be, a Great school!

There is not enough space allowed to list the complaints that I have with this school and the Cincinnati Public School District. The principal is certainly not the students' 'pal'; lack of funding has left the students without a computer lab; teachers are given bare-minimum resources and are left to ask for parent donations on a regular basis. Cheviot is a K-8 program held on a K-6 campus. My son is in the 1st grade and is consistently bullied by the much-older children while lining up on the playground before school starts. Where is the principal? Why are the incompetent Instructor Assistants left to manage the entire student body? Our saving grace this school year has been my son's teacher, Miss Gretchen Leck. She really cares and I wish I could take her with us when we move out of CPS this summer.

Why are no text books available for students to bring home to study? Forget about getting anyone to take the time for a conference. I had two children in Cheviot last year, they both went from average students to failing. My son is back in his old school in South Dayton, and is getting straight A's. My daughter has flunked this School year and will have to repeat next year. The school board will do nothing, I have requested conferences for over 4 1/2 months, We have given up on Cheviot Elementary and will never be back. This school is failing our children, they are not getting an education here. The wonder of it all is they get a new renovated building next year, but they can't afford books or simple learning supplies? No PTA either? No foreign language? Only Basic Math (8th grade) This School gets an F-.

Why have over 30 teachers left this school in the last 3 and half years? The school is not a 'redesign' school. It is because of the principal and the lack of CPS to do something about the problem.
