St. Xavier High School Reviews

No school is perfect, but St. X is considered tops in town. That 4-star review cracks me up: there literally isn't a college in America that would suggest Moeller's better than X, or even on the same level. Even so, the education costs a lot more than at Cincy's very good publics; it depends on how important you think character education is--in that regard, X again is best in town.

I grudgingly admit that St. Xavier is the finest high school in Cincinnati. Coming from a Moeller grad no less. What changed my attitude was my youngest son's experience. He took the entrance exam and gained admission unlike his older brothers (Moeller grads). Once I gained entry to the inner workings of the school as a St. Xavier parent, my ingrained prejudices against this fine (finest!) school were proven to be baseless. I would heartily agree with all of the superlatives expressed by so many of the other reviewers toward St. Xavier High School. It is clearly the one school to which all others (including its younger brother Jesuit school in Cleveland) aspire to be. No other Catholic school can equal much less surpass all of the academic achievements and measures of quality of St. Xavier . From a proud parent of a member of The Long Blue Line, THANK YOU.

We can't say enough good things about St. Xavier HS. I have a seinor and a sophomore. My youngest son can't wait to go. The school is supportive and nurturing. They have the best teachers and staff that I have ever encountered. It is a great place for boys to become men.

My son is a senior this year. He has developed into a strong confident young man, very much inpart due to St X.They teach strong values and have such an excellent range in class options. My son is well prepared for high school.

St. X is top-notch in every respect and deserves its reputation. My interaction with St. X students, without exception, is that they come out of school as mature, well-spoken, impressive young men. St. X has been a struggle academically for my son. He is a smart kid but every kid at St. X is smart. As a result, there are times I've felt that he was a little discouraged by the toughness of the academics. At his local public school, he'd probably be an 'A' student. His friends at the local public school rarely have homework. At St. X, my son is a B-C student and is in the bottom quartile of the class. If your son is not very strong academically, I would not recommend St. X because you'll be in for a long, hard four years.

I am a college admissions counselor who interviews students all over Cincinnati. The St. X seniors I interview are a cut above. There are fine students from other schools around town as well, but St X students are consistently outstanding, and clearly very well prepared for college.

This is the best school in Cincinnati and one of the best in the US. I would suggest speaking with graduates, parents, and faculty directly. This is the only school in Cincinnati where all of these groups are more than happy to speak concerning the school. Also speak to the same groups at competitive schools and you will find that the reputation equals the performance for this school. My only complaint is that the school tends to be slightly more conservative than my leanings but much less so than I anticipated before my son attended. I would recommend this school to anyone who can pass the entrance exam. The tuition is a small fraction of the cost of college tuition and is an insurance policy towards you child performing well at the next level. Financial aid is available but this school is worth full tuition even for those of moderate income.

Pretty good school, athletically strong. Not quite as good as Moeller, but it's better than your other two options for all-male Catholic high schools in the area.

St. X has done a tremendous job educating my two sons. It is a top notch private school which is genuinely concerned about the career and success of each student. The parent involvement is outstanding which is a major reason why the school has been very successful in educating future scholars and leaders.

My son is about to graduate from St. X. The years my son spent at St. X has been the most positive experience of his adolescent years. Not only does the administration stress academic excellence, but the motto of 'educating young men to serve others' has had such a powerful impact on the development of my son's character. Over the past four years, I have witnessed my son mature from a young, insecure, awkward teenager to a proud, confident, compassionate and caring gentleman. St. X has certainly been a positive and powerful this maturation. The tuition is high, but well worth the money. If I could decide all over again where my son attends high school, I would, without hesitation, choose St. Xavier High School.

My son moved to Cincinnati the summer before his freshman year when I remarried. A very difficult move for him at a very critical point in his development. The atmosphere at St. X proved to be the single most important element to his adjustment. The students are smart, athletic, competative and PROUD. They value their time at St. X and they value the awesome opportunity that it represents. I am constantly struck by how the students themselves push each other to excel in everything that they set out to do. Whether on the athletic field, in the class room or organizing fund drives, these young men strive to be the BEST at each and every chosen endeavor AND 9 times out of 10 THEY SUCCEED! What an awesome life lesson for my son...and for yours.

Son graduated 2001 -if they enrolled girls my daughter would have gone there too! Once you get past the socio-economic snobbery, the acedemics are top shelf. They make it cool to be a geek! Great facillities, great support from alumni, scholarship and financial aid available - tuition high, but worth it!

I am a successful man today, 10 years after my graduation, because of the strong foundation I received at St. X High School. College, for me, was less stressful than it was for others (Chemical Engineering, MBA) because I learned to study and discipline myself through the academic and athletic programs offered by St. X. Will my sons go to St. X when they're old enough? Absolutely! St. X is a bit more expensive than others (of course more than public), but the scholarships and career push I got from my education more than made up for the tuition. I am a major believer in St. X. The teachers, coaches, and school leadership are ahead of all others in the Cincinnati area.

Excellent college prep school even for non-catholics. Studying is the norm not the exception. Teachers set high expectations and students strive to meet them. Some teachers are strict, picky, almost military in their dealings with students. But all are very knowledgable in their subject and most grade fairly.
