Seven Hills School High Reviews

I relocated my family to enroll my child for high school. This proved to be an inpenetrable group of educators and parent groups. Everything is their way or no way. For an institution of advanced ideas we were disappointed in the lack of student experience with technology at the high school level. This school required repitition of course work that had already been completed with A+ marks. This environment promotes the choice of their 'power of administration' over the accomplishments/needs of a student or family. The administration perpetuates gender bias with the attitude that 'boys will be boys' and young ladies carry the sole responsibility for the misconduct and advances that the aforementoned boys impose. We remain disconnected and disappointed in this experience.

Seven Hills is known as 'the best school in Cincinnati,' but our experience at Doherty left this emperor scantily clad. In particular, I strongly caution any parents of gifted children. The facilities are lovely, and the other families were friendly, but most everything of substance was lacking. One of the teachers (since retired) was very harsh with the children. The others were better intentioned but clueless with respect to our DD's advanced abilities. Head & counselor were uninformed about meeting the needs of the gifted. The head told us that the school emphasizes group activities over individual accomplishments, and that we wanted more differentiation than the school gave, which was funny in a bad way as we had chosen the school because the admissions director had sold us on the school's ability to differentiate. I hear it was better 20 years ago, but now it's just cruising on its reputation.

I used to attend Seven Hills. In fact, I wen there for my entire life. That is approximately fifteen years of education, and I would not trade any of it for the world... Contrary to what whomever wrote below, I did not have the greatest SAT scores, or grades for that matter. Yet Seven Hills still accepted me and helped me work toward improving my weaknesses, and toward getting better grades. Seven Hills genuinely prepared me for college, and I am certain that they did a better job than any private school in the area would. As another commentee reported, it is like a community. I am still friends with people that I met in the first grade... Seven Hills was an amazing experience overall and I am blessed that my parents awarded me the opportunity to be a life-long student and member of such a loving, caring community.

I have two children attending this school and we often think of changing to a different learning environment. I would advise that you consider other options before starting at Seven Hills. Its hard to pull your kids out of a school when there is no real emergency but I think they could be happier and get a more individualized education elsewhere.

My son has been at Seven Hills since Kindergarten. He is going into 5th grade. We are very happy with Seven Hills. Yes, we are in transition, and there are things that we would like to change, but for the last five years we feel that our son has gotten a very good education. The students love the school. Parents can be involved if they want to be. The school creates a family atmosphere. The teachers we have had still have the joy of teaching, it's not just a job to them. I feel secure that my son is getting a good base to continue into middle and upper school and succeed to his fullest potential.

Seven Hills is in a state of change- no headmaster, no leadership and no real direction. I hope things work out but, for now, this is NOT a school in which to start an education. The staff lack the interest or expertise in accommodating creative, intelligent children with learning differences of ANY kind. Watching the admission process from the inside, it seems Seven Hills seeks only to admit students most likely to score well on standardized tests instead of students most likely to achieve or to demonstrate any original thought. This is a school for future followers and ardent conformists.

I have gone to this school from 5th to 9th grade and wouldn't change a single thing about the learning enviorment or the people there. We are not a school, but rather a community.
