It’s a bit strange. Walk into Pearl’s restaurant and the large aquarium and seaside decorations tell you that "Pearl" might refer to the pearl in an oyster, a tiny treasure found at the beach, rather than a woman’s first name. There are surfboards, tropical plants, and pictures of beach chairs and sunsets. And then there’s religious stuff. Biblical quotations, a picture of Jesus, and a carving of the Last Supper.
Despite the apparent incongruities in the décor, the combination may represent a visit to grandma’s house. After all, everybody here is extremely friendly, and just wants to make sure you’re fed, and comfortable. Have a seat in a booth, or at one of the tables, borrow the daily newspaper, and someone will be right there with a drink for you, and the menu.
That family feeling comes through on the menu as well. The well-worn laminated pages list home-style comfort food at low prices. Nothing on the menu costs more than $10; even though some items have had their prices crossed out neatly with a sharpie, and changed.
Regulars speak highly of Pearl’s breakfast food, their bottomless coffee cup and three egg omelets, and the even the dinner specials at Pearl’s allow customers to enjoy breakfast with their supper. For example, the steak, ham and pork chops are all available potatoes and vegetables, bread, or the fresh salad bar, but customers can also opt for two eggs, home fries, and toast with their entrée.
HelloMetro Tip: Just like family, you’re welcome anytime. Pearl’s Diner is open for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
