Good food, cheap. The Cherokee Grill is a favorite among locals because of its value. Its website touts the slogan “Great food at a great price” and also says that it’s the “Home of the ‘Chief.’”
On the menu, the “Chief” consists of toast, with eggs, sausage, home fries, gravy and cheese ($5.95). There’s also a “Brave” and a “Squaw” and while these breakfast dishes sound great, there’s no clear tie between the food and Native Americans.
In fact, the menu features none of the food you might associate with Native Americans. There’s not a whole lot of corn, or beans, or fish, or game. No buffalo either, not even Buffalo Wings.
So, obviously, “Cherokee Grill” gets its name from the strip mall in which it's located, where there’s a big totem pole out front. A dream catcher and a few Native American prints also try to make a statement amid the painted concrete walls and large glass windows with a view of the parking lot.
But despite the sterile décor, the Cherokee Grill has charm. The staff seems friendly and always eager to please. The service is laid back, prompt initially, but possibly requiring you to wave your arms a bit for a drink refill. Friends gather at the counter and swap gossip with the staff as they serve up sandwiches, sides and breakfast foods.
People talk about the double deckers here with praise: meaty, fresh and tasty. The three-egg omelets with two ingredients are well known too, served with choice of toast for just $4.95, they are satisfying and delicious.
