Valet parking in suburbia, where there’s a Steak and Shake across the street, tells you Carlo and Johnny is not an ordinary restaurant. Drive under the awning and employees rush to the car. One opens the passenger door; the other helps out the driver and parks the car a few feet away.
A host of people greet you. If it’s a special occasion, they might comment on the event as they lead you through the restaurant, a beautiful mansion with a “storied history as a casino and Mafia hangout, adorned with antiques and . . . doorknobs from Al Capone's winter home.”
Diners may not notice the doorknobs, but they’re a mark of owner Jeff Ruby’s attention to detail. In Cincinnati, he’s famous for that. And more famous for his steaks.
The menu at Carlo and Johnny features 15 different steaks. From an 18 ounce, bone-in filet mignon, to a Kentucky Bison strip steak, to the amazing Steak Collinsworth - - a 9 ounce Filet Mignon with crab, asparagus, mushroom bordelaise and béarnaise. Additional entrees, including excellent seafood are also available.
Everything on the menu is ala Carte, but the delicious side dishes are plenty for two. Choose from several including roasted wild mushrooms, Truffle Creamed Sweet Corn, or baked macaroni and cheese: a delicious creamy dish with a crunchy top and seven cheeses. Carlo and Johnny also serves an interesting array of appetizers, salads,
