Bloggers for the best Cincinnati food blogs know that food scene here is vibrant. Restaurant blogs capture the essence of fine dining, mom and pop places, popular hangouts and little-known dives. Find out what’s new and hip, or old and reliable, by checking out some of the best Cincinnati food blogs:
Wine Me, Dine Me
This blog ranks high in Google and Yahoo! search engines, boasting more than 2,000 subscribers. With those kinds of numbers, it’s not too surprising to learn that its author, Julie Niesen Gosdin, has a background in marketing as well as writing. Still, "Wine Me, Dine Me" stands out because posts show genuine culinary expertise, but also read like a letter from a friend who wants to tell you all about where she went and the food she enjoyed there. Additionally, most of the "Wine Me, Dine Me" posts generate a number of comments, and Julie responds to each with genuine interest.
Get in Mah Belly
While "Wine Me, Dine Me" is written by a Cincinnati native who understands the obsession with high school loyalties and “nearly unhealthy level of nostalgia in Cincinnati,” blogger Liz Enfuego, author of “Get in mah belly,” defiantly announces in her profile, “i am not from Cincinnati. I do not care where you went to high school.” Her next sentence shows that she is an opinionated foodie and will not hide her feelings: "i love Skyline but i think Graeter's is overrated.” As might be expected, the reviews at “get in mah belly” are unvarnished, honest and grammatically incorrect. However, they come with great pictures of both the food and the restaurant, and readers definitely know what to expect from the restaurants reviewed.
Veggie Option
A more gracious blog with a seemingly more altruistic bent, "Veggie Option" is also written by a non-native Greater Cincinnatian. Now hailing from Newport, Kentucky, the anonymous author aims to help her fellow vegetarians find good food in the Queen City. As she explains in her profile, “Vegetarians enjoy eating out as much as their carnivorous brethren, yet many times we are forced to cobble together a selection of side dishes to make a meal. . . I'm scoping out local restaurants for vegetarian options.” Written in a friendly, informative tone, Veggie Option provides all diners with solid descriptions and great photos for more healthy dining.
