Location:
Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati

Starts at: 12:00 AM
Ends at: 12:00 AM This is an all day event
Description:
Presented by Contemporary Arts Center, The Saturday, May 24, 2008 - Sunday, August 24, 2008 Opening Night: May 23, 3008 7 -11 pm American Idyll: Contemporary Art and Karaoke engages the human voice, amateur performance and the idea of competition to explore political, social, and cultural views. The exhibition features interactive, multimedia works, including a karaoke bar open every Monday night throughout the show and computerized motorcycle race powered by human screams. The gallery also becomes an experimental stage to investigate karaoke as a global cultural phenomenon and metaphor for theoretical and artistic approach. Artists employ song, laughter, noise and speech in this voice-activated exhibition that hinges upon do-it-yourself entertainment, giving new meaning to talent and celebrating the tone-deaf. In conjunction with American Idyll artist Ryan Mulligan will combine education and entertainment in a performance-lecture series that teaches us everything we need to know about the history of macaroni salad and how to talk effectively at cocktail parties.
