Sticks slash. Ice sprays. The puck slides. Join the fun at Open Hockey at Northland Ice Center on Friday afternoons from 11 a.m. to 1p.m.
Northland Ice Center, Cincinnati’s first year-round ice skating rink, features a regulation NHL-size ice surface where numerous high school teams compete, along with the Cincinnati Amateur Hockey Association, UC Hockey Club and the Northland Hockey League for Adults.
Naturally, many ice skaters prefer figure skating to hockey, and Northland serves those athletes as well, hosting both the Queen City Figure Skating Club, and the Northland Figure Skating Academy.
Want to improve your skating? Northland Ice Center offers group lessons geared toward both students’ age and ability. Expert skating instructors teach the program developed by the US Figure Skating Association. Call 513-563-0008 for more information, or to register.
Northland can also improve your equipment. Visit the pro shop and find a staff with more experience sharpening skates than any other local facility. Under most circumstances, Northland can sharpen your skates while you wait. The basic service costs $7, first-time sharpening for new skates is $10.00, and rockering, or changing the shape of the blade to enhance a skater’s performance, costs $20. In addition to its sharpening service, the Pro Shop also sells figure and hockey skates, hockey sticks, shin and elbow pads, and many other rink needs.
And, when you need a snack, or something to quench your thirst, visit the snack bar. Munch on a hot pretzel, nachos, or candy, and sip a soft drink, or warm up with some hot chocolate or coffee.
